Cherry Creek Cleanup Scheduled for September 15
The Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams, Kosciusko County Velo (KCV) the Village at Winona, Grace College, Paddlers for Conservation (P4C) and the Winona Lake Trails are hosting their first-ever community cleanup on Saturday, September 15, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The free event begins at the Winona Lake Trailhead, 410 Boys City Drive, Winona Lake. Registration is required.
“This project will have a tangible, immediate impact on the community,” said Dugan Julian, events coordinator at the Lilly Center. “Our first priority is to make sure Cherry Creek is safe for visitors and local wildlife. We also want to preserve the stream’s overall health and beauty,” Julian added.
Volunteers will pull trash and other debris from the stream. Adult participants can use chainsaws to cut up and remove larger log jams. All debris will be moved to the trailhead for proper disposal. “After the work day, KCV will provide free lunch for the volunteers,” Julian added.
